Creative Movement offers a combination of ballet and tumbling for ages 2-4 for 45 minutes weekly. These classes are flexible and freeform, focusing on teaching the basics of balance, form, and rhythm while encouraging expressive movement and creativity. We offer two levels that cater to ages 2-3 and 3-4 respectively.
Our CM dancers will need tights or thin socks, a pair of ballet shoes, a leotard or combination of fitted plain tee and fitted shorts or leggings, a dance bag, and a water bottle for class. They should always wear a coverup over their dance clothes when not in class to protect their dance wear and keep their muscles warm after exercise in colder months. This can be a jacket, a big t-shirt, their favorite dress, etc. Their hair should be pulled back in a secure style as needed.
Tuition for CM I & II is $80/monthly based on the length of the class. Students are invited to register for a free trial before committing to the class, which continues throughout the year until the end of May.
Typically CM students are invited to perform in our annual end of year showcase as a group, but participation is optional.
Creative Movement I is open to two and young three year olds, or older threes that require a little extra time and attention as they adjust to a new setting. While Creative Movement I is our only class for two year olds at this time, we have sometimes offered Parent and Me classes for ages 1.5-3 years when interest is expressed. Feel free to let us know that you're interested in a Parent and Me!
Creative Movement II is open to three and four year olds. Beginners are welcome in both levels. We also invite 3-4 year olds to join Dance Combo I for an hour of ballet, tap, and tumbling. Beginners are equally welcome in those classes.
Our Dance Combos I, II, & III offer one (1) hour of ballet, tap, and tumbling for ages 3-6. These classes are more structured than the Creative Movement classes, seeking to instill tiny dancers with a sense of routine and the basic elements of each subject according to their age and capability. We offer three levels that cater to ages 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6 respectively.
Our DC I-III dancers will need tights or thin socks, a pair of ballet shoes, a pair of tap shoes, a leotard or combination of fitted plain tee and fitted shorts or leggings, a dance bag, and a water bottle for class. They should always wear a coverup over their dance clothes when not in class to protect their dance wear and keep their muscles warm after exercise in colder months. This can be a jacket, a big t-shirt, their favorite dress, etc. Their hair should be pulled back in a secure style as needed.
Regular tuition for DC I-III is $90/monthly based on the length of the class. Students are invited to register for a free trial before committing to the class, which continues throughout the year until the end of May.
All Dance Combo classes will learn a routine and perform in our annual end of year showcase as a group, but individual participation is optional.
Our Dance Combos IV-V offer an hour and fifteen minutes or an hour and a half of ballet, tap, and jazz for ages 5-12. These classes seek to provide budding dancers with the technical ability, structure, and terminology to continue with dance on an advanced level. These classes do welcome beginners! There are beginners of all ages at JWSD, so don't hold your future dancer back based on experience.
Many of our Dance Combo IV-V dancers choose to move into either our preparatory program, Sparks (ages 6-8), or our preprofessional dance company, Body Talk (ages 7-18), after a year or two in these classes. Others have successfully auditioned for school dance teams or programs, e.g., Lamar Middle School's dance track.
We offer two levels:
Our DC IV-V dancers will need pink or skin-tone tights and ballet shoes (split sole preferred but not required), black tap shoes (mary jane style preferred but not required), a black leotard, a dance bag, and a water bottle for class. They should always wear a coverup over their dance clothes when not in class to protect their dance wear and keep their muscles warm after exercise in colder months. This can be a jacket, a big t-shirt, their favorite dress, etc. Their hair should be pulled back in a secure style that they will not need to touch or redo as the class progresses. Ballet buns, ponytails, secure braids, or strong hair clips/headbands for short hair to keep it out of their eyes.
Regular tuition for DC IV is $110/monthly for an hour and fifteen minutes a week. Regular tuition for DC V is $120/monthly for an hour and a half a week. Students are invited to register for a free trial before committing to the class, which continues throughout the year until the end of May.
All Dance Combo classes will learn a routine and perform in our annual end of year showcase as a group, but individual participation is optional.
